The Lovely Yinka of Vex in the City invited me along to an event that she co-hosted with Benefit Makeup. Benefit is not known for its compatibility with darker skintones, so this event was held especially to show how the brand tries to cater to all.

I love being surronded by makeup … my idea of heaven on earth .. well almost.

First, the lovely makeup artist demonstrated a full make over on a woman of colour to demonstrate. The result being that she looked divine, nonetheless she was a few shades lighter than myself.  Hence, when it came to playing around with the colours myself I have to say I was left slightly disappointed, especially with the blush which they claimed would suit everyone. It gave my skin an ashy/grey undertone….. That’s not to say it wont suit others … it just didn’t work for me.

Benefit are aware that they carry a very limited foundation range and have plans to bring out more shades very very soon. I give them kudos for really trying and for hosting such a fun night. I love the branding concept behind Benefit and I anticipate the developments in their colour range but for now I will have to pass on some of their products.

I did get my eyebrows tinted and waxed though, the picture looks a bit scary but it’s faded a bit now to give a more natural tone.
