Melissa.

I ordered a pair of Vivienne Westwood Melissa flats online about a year ago. I missed the delivery by one day and they got sent back to America. After months and months of phone calls to their customer service, these babies are finally here.

They are too cute.

Quick Post -L’s Wedding :)

My friend Lolade, is getting married today! Well, her Engagement Ceremony/ Traditional Wedding. I thought I’d do a quick post of my outfit.

For our non-Nigerian readers, in our culture, the bride and groom choose a fabric (or fabrics) that their friends and family wear for the occasion. This is called “aso Ebi”. So here I am wearing Lolade’s aso Ebi. It’s absolutely Gorgeous; lace and velvet!

Behind The Scenes & Sneak Peek -Alali Boutique A/W 2012 Collection

“Imagine you could wear really glamorous and stylish clothes jetskiing or wakeboarding….” -Oroma Cookey – Gam; creative director, Alali Boutique.

We haven’t told you enough about Alali Boutique here at SBQ. It’s a fashion label based in Lagos, Nigeria. We love that all the pieces are wearable but extremely unique; there’s a common theme of elegance. The creative director, Oroma, plays around with prints and colours; clean cut fashion!

The new collection, “Need For Glam” is absolutely gorgeous. Oroma tells us a bit more about the collection and her inspiration.

“These were perhaps the subconscious thoughts in my mind last December when I spent the best part of my christmas holiday speeding through the creeks of Calabar and Opobo Kingdom. ‘Need for Glam’, the ALALI Boutique A/W 2012 Collection is inspired by surface water sports’ wear and the glamour of the 1950s unsuspectingly fused together to create the most wearable and delectable collection. Think speedy, glamourous and intriguing. For shapes I looked to the 1950s, for detail I looked to the panelling in sportswear and for colour, I looked to the landscape of the South-South of Nigeria.”

The collection is more structured than the typical ALALI Collection but stays true to ALALI aesthetics with soft silhouettes, fluid pieces and sheer details.

The make-up is dark and intriguing with a touch of blue for a contemporary look. The hair channels the speedy / sporty aesthetic and the collection is styled to introduce a tribal impression while preserving the sporty and intruiging elements.

We’ll be putting up the lookbook in our post so look out for that!

Virgos Lounge – High Summer Collection 2012 & TOPSHOP!!

Tobi and I still have our very first Virgos Lounge pieces. They were these vintage tops, beautiful colours. We saw them and instantly fell in love and it’s been that way with every single VL collection ever since. The label has gone from selling vintage pieces online to creating vintage inspired pieces to Topshop.

We visited the girls at their new office a few weeks ago and Tobi & I couldn’t stop going on about how proud and happy we were. Hard work really does pay off. We couldn’t be more thrilled for the girls here at SBQ!

Select pieces from their High Summer Collection will be launching today at 11.30am in Topshop on Oxford Circus. The entire collection will be released tomorrow (Monday, 30th of April, 2012) on their website, at 12pm.

Okay, can I confess? There’s a skirt named after me (Kike) in this collection, called the “KIKI” skirt! I literally cannot contain my excitement!

(…and that’s the “KIKI” skirt on the right)

We would love for you to support the girls. Please visit Topshop at 11.30 today and be amazed! The “KIKI” skirt will also be available; I’m jealous that I’m all the way in Nigeria but my dearest Tobi will be there to tell me all about it.

Love & even more Love,

Modus Vivendii -Our Way of Living

I’m (Kike) a huge, huge, tee-shirt lover. I love graphics and prints and patterns; so when I heard about Modus Vivendii, I was beyond thrilled to discover that not only were they Nigerians but they were massively talented.

We heard about Modus Vivendii here at SBQ, during the Roberto Cavalli & Franca Sozzani visit to Lagos. We love their creativity and we can’t wait for them to blow up!

Here’s a bit about the brand:

The 3 founders that are Jimmy Ayeni, Ola Badiru and Anthony Oye have all known each since childhood whilst living in their hometown of Lagos, Nigeria, all with an individual sense of style.

This led to the formation of the Modus Vivendii blog which created a large following and interest depicting to them what they were capable of. The blog was put in place to depict and show the they way they boys live, and how fashsion relates. As the blog that follows the team around the world has continued, it has enabled the brand and concept to grow on more than one continent, with a keen interest from Nigeria being perhaps the most notable. It has seen them go from bloggers, to stylists and now designers after meddling with clients such as Big Sean and Labrinth.

The boys caught the eye of Roberto Cavalli, and now they’ve been invited back to Milan to release their next collection (they’ll be hosted by Cavalli himself). They also have a feature coming up in L’Uomo Vogue (May/June Issue), so look out for that.

StylebyQueens – Fitness

In the spirit of the London Marathon, I thought this post would be fitting! I have been asked a alot about my fitness regime, tips and tricks. I love keeping fit and the benefits are endless, you look great, feel great, your skin will glow and you’ll just be an all round fly girl!

Below are some of the things that have really worked for me and I try my best to keep it up but we’re all allowed cheat days…. So here goes………

1. Weights! I cant shout about them enough. Adding weights to your routine will change your body shape in half the time, by increasing your metabolism, meaning you burn calories for hours after you work out and even in your sleep. If you are a member of a gym, don’t be scared get yourself along to a body pump class. Alternatively you could get yourself some weights and try this at home  - http://www.womenshealthmag.com/fitness/lift-heavy-weights

With weights you will build lean muscle, which in turn burns fat and tones you up perfectly. Win Win if you ask me.

2. Try something new. Going to the gym week after week, doing the same spin class or body combat will slow down noticeable improvements. The body is amazingly clever and adapts very quickly to repetitive exercise. The more you change up your routine the  harder your body will be challenged and you will see constant results.

I have joined a boot camp in Green Park, it is honestly amazing! If anyone wants to come along with me  just drop me an email the first class is free – Boot Camp

Other options could be Zumba, Power plate, rock climbing, Resistance Pilates, or Boxing etc. Wahanda are always doing great deals so there is no excuse to try something new !

3. Intervals….. Anyone who knows me, knows I used to be a hurdler. Hence I HATE running for more than approximately 10 seconds. So interval training is great for me, I run at 90% speed for about 30-90secs then jog for about 1-2 mins and repeat this pattern for about 20 – 30 mins. You will raise your heart rate and pack in a more intense work out in just half the time as going for a long run. Not to mention it is great for fat burning.

5. Omeaga 3 or Fish oils are great for helping you maintain a toned mid section! Ive been quite slack recently at taking them but they are also great for concentration!

4. Youtube! We are so lucky to live in the age of the abundance of information. I get so many of my work outs from youtube, it keeps working out fun and fresh! I am a huge fan of these two ladies, check out all of their videos.

Stay Healthy Queens,

Love,

Sister Act III

My sisters have an amazing sense of style. I learn so much from them, it’s unbelievable. A few weeks ago, I went to spend some time with them and we all discovered how we wear the same pieces of clothing differently. Here we are wearing a vintage denim jacket and a studded jumper in similar, yet different ways.

Football “Swag”?

I have accepted that the word “Swag” is here to stay and it’s not going anywhere.

My friend Adeola (who we’ve featured so many times here on SBQ) and I watched our friends on Sunday at their football tournament. Our outfits were definitely not planned!

You can tell she’s a model right? Those cheekbones!
